Drug Involved Offenders Back to Top

img
Adolescent Drinking and Young Adult Violence: evidence from a longitudinal study of urban African-Americans suggests association between drinking alcohol during adolescence and increased risk for some forms of young adult violence.

Women In Drug Court: Current but not past major depression appears to be associated with risk of crack use among women attending drug court.

Alcoholics Anonymous: Reductions in pro-drinking and increases in pro-abstinence network members, and enhancements in self-efficacy in high-risk social situations, appear to be of primary importance in explaining why AA participation facilitates recovery.

Adaptive Intervention in Drug Courts: a pilot study by TRI finds that adaptively managing drug/alcohol treatment and supervision for offender clients in a misdemeanor drug court yielded higher graduation rates and shorter time to graduation, with no evidence of client dissatisfaction or interference with therapeutic alliance.

Buprenorphine Treatment in Medicaid: study finds the evidence doesn’t support rationing buprenorphine to save State money or ensure safety.

Extended Release Naltrexone (XR-NTX) for Alcohol Dependence: XR-NTX patients persisted longer with treatment than oral medication patients and had lower inpatient and ER costs.

Medication Assisted Alcohol Treatment: Patients who received medication had lower healthcare utilization and total costs than those who did not.

Medication Assisted Opioid Treatment: Patients with opioid dependence who received medications as part of their comprehensive treatment had lower inpatient hospital use and total costs than patients who did not receive medications.

Problems of Concerned Family Members: Family members, spouses, and partners of substance-using individuals experience frequent problems in a wide range of live domains.

MOTHER Study: as opposed to methadone treatment, babies born to mothers treated with buprenorphine during pregnancy showed significantly fewer withdrawal symptoms and left the hospital more quickly.

Alcoholism Medications & Healthcare Utilization: patients treated with an alcoholism medication had lower healthcare utilization than those that did not.

Performance Based Contracting in State AOD Treatment Systems: in the “Delaware Experiment,” paying substance abuse treatment providers for results, not services, may lead to improved quality of care.

Relieving Paperwork Burden in Addiction Treatment: Outpatient substance abuse treatment providers can often be relieved of a substantial amount of paperwork – up to six hours time saved per patient in one state-wide project - without affecting clinical or administrative processes.
